Oregon Opens New Inpatient Gambling Treatment Facility

Oregon has recently opened inpatient gambling facilities to curb gambling addiction.

The facility located at 3325 Harold Dr., N.E., has received an increased waiting list of the patients just a week after its opening.

The new inpatient program will complement the statewide network of twenty seven outpatient clinics and home study programs for less severe gambling problems.

The formal launching ceremony of the eleven bed facility will open on August 17th at 10:30 in the morning.

One of the guest speakers is one who has successfully recovered from the gambling addiction.

Jeff Marotta, manager of problem gambling services at the Oregon Department of Human Services, said that the new facility will cater to pathological gamblers.

Cascadia Behavioral Healthcare is operating the new Salem facility on a three hundred twenty seven thousand dollars annual contract with DHS for seven of the eleven beds.

Marotta said that the inpatient program will normally last for thirty days but actual length may differ according to individual case.

Admission to the inpatient program requires a referral from the Oregon's outpatient programs.

Oregon's program is considered as the most complete for problem gamblers in the country.

Therapy in the state run facilities is free of charge as it is being paid by one percent of the lottery revenues
